Southern Oregon : Klamath Falls
  Welcome to Klamath Falls...
Klamath Falls, once known as the town of Linkville, having been founded at the mouth of the Link River in 1867 by George Nurse, is situated on the southern shore of Upper Klamath Lake, and is nestled in the Klamath River Basin on the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains. At an altitude of 4100 feet and considered high desert, it enjoys nearly 300 days of sunshine per year. With a population of approximately 19,000 within the city limits, and an additional 25,000+ population in the surrounding urban growth boundary, the area is home to the Oregon Institute of Technology and many historical, cultural, and recreational attractions.

Klamath Lake, the largest natural lake west of the Great Salt Lake, covers 133 square miles and hosts the greatest concentration of fall waterfowl on the west coast and the largest wintering concentration of Bald Eagles in the lower 48 states. Each February, nature enthusiasts from around the world celebrate this phenomenon at the Bald Eagle Conference in Klamath Falls, the nation’s oldest birding festival. Recreational activities within the city of Klamath Falls include Moore Park, the Link River Nature Trail, Lake Ewauna Wing Watchers Nature Trail, and the Downtown Historic Walking Tour. Outside the city, the OCE&E Woods Line State Trail, a 100-mile rails-to-trails conversion is paved from Klamath Falls to the small rural community of Olene and provides a scenic mixture of ranch lands, rivers and forested buttes. A short distance away is the Lava Beds National Monument, an incredibly rugged landscape punctuated by cinder cones, lava flows, spatter cones, underground lava tube caves and pit craters. And the Klamath River provides opportunity for class four white water rafting.

For those who prefer less rugged pursuits there are four historical museums, the landmark Ross Ragland Theater of performing and visual arts center, and the Linkville Playhouse. And just outside of Klamath Falls, you’ll find five distinct courses golf courses, one being the only Arnold Palmer golf course in Oregon, and others with spectacular views of California’s Mount Shasta.
